The Field Guide to Trees of Southern Africa

Arbour month encouraged people all over the world to plant trees, and lots of them. For myself I am

mostly flummoxed when trying to identify the more obscure trees which is why this book is a must

for novice tree huggers.

The updated version by Dr Braam van Wyk of the best-known local field guide of trees is very

substantial and covers more than 1 000 of the estimated more than 2 100 species of the Southern

African region.

Whether you are choosing new trees for your garden or planning a road trip, you will

find clear descriptions, useful mini distribution maps, and a user-friendly layout that help identify

the different trees and their uses.

At more than 700 pages, it is perhaps too heavy for most to carry

in a backpack, but this is the ideal book for anyone interested in our rich heritage of trees. Most of

the excellent photographs are by the late co-author Piet van Wyk.
